What is Android Pie? How To Download it?

Android P or “Pie” is the 16th version and 9th major update of Android OS. The Pie adjusts to the user’s preferences, with outstanding adaptability features going above and beyond those of previous versions. More of its advantages are listed at the end of this article.

Google released a total of five Android Pie developer previews this year – on March 7, May 8, June 6, July 2, and July 25. The official release of the P was on August 6, 2018.

Android Pie is available for a number of phones – Google Pixel, Pixel 2, Pixel XL, and Pixel 2 XL.  The Essential Phone features the update too. P will become available as an over-the-air update. To see if it has arrived on the handset, users need to go to Settings, System, and System Update. They may even get an alert notifying them of its availability.

Once these steps have been performed, you just tap on “download” and install Android Pie. This can’t be done if the battery isn’t fully charged, so make sure it is or you’re near a charger before starting.

Features and Functions

With Android Pie, the battery lasts longer, so you can do more with a single charge. It adapts to user preferences, which is why the battery isn’t drained by apps and services one doesn’t use often.

The App Actions feature predicts what the user plans to do so they can move along quicker to their next task. For instance, the songs you were listening to earlier are front and center when you connect your headphones. With this update, Android adapts to the different activities in your life more quickly – during your morning commute, in the office, during meetings, at the gym, or with headphones.

Another aspect that adaptability extends to is brightness. The phone learns what brightness level you like and sets it automatically with no need for adjustments on your part.

This feature pulls up relevant parts of your favorite apps to the fore based on search preferences. Navigation is fully intuitive – you can switch between apps and access what you need faster and more naturally because gestures are used instead of buttons.

Final Thoughts

Android Pie is all about digital wellbeing. The update was developed based on the premise that reliable technology should be helpful, not distracting. Developers have introduced a set of tools accordingly to help users enjoy greater efficiency.

How to Find the Best DNS Server

All Internet providers have their own DNS servers, which the users’ devices rely on by default. However, the provider’s server is far from the only option you have. You can choose a different one.

Benchmark tests show OpenDNS is the fastest third-party DNS server, with UltraDNS and Google Public DNS coming in second and third respectively. These are the options to go for when you’re looking for speed higher than that your provider is able to offer.

Parents searching for a DNS server with configurable controls would be wise to choose OpenDNS. It offers free accounts, which are configurable, allowing parents and caregivers to set up malware blocking, to choose sites or types of sites they don’t want the child accessing, and even draft a customized domain list that should be allowed or blocked. Another advantage of OpenDNS is that your information is not shared with outside parties.

High Speed

As noted, OpenDNS isn’t the only fast DNS server. Google Public DNS is a no-frills option focused on providing quick and accurate results. It is completely secure and the results it provides are unfiltered and raw. Use data is not correlated with any personal information the user has provided to other Google-based services. Both OpenDNS Home and Google Public can be used with or without the filtering.

Benchmarking Tools

To check other options out, you could run a benchmarking tool. We recommend the free one by Gibson Research Corporation, especially for Windows or Linux users looking for the fastest DNS server. If you are using Mac, we recommend the tool Namebench. Simply download the tools and launch them. No installation is required for the Gibson. After you launch this tool, click on “Run” in the “Nameservers” tab. It will provide data on the best 72 servers. After that, it can benchmark thousands of publicly available DNS servers all over the world and show you the best 50 depending on your Internet connection specs.

For best results, make sure you close any other applications while running the DNS benchmark tool. Online games or streaming will slow the process down.

There are countless of high-speed DNS servers – we also recommend Level 3 DNS – with some being better than others. What aspects should users take into account? Apart from the specifics of your Internet connection, we advise checking privacy policies to make sure the server won’t sell or otherwise compromise your data.

How to Clean An Infected Computer

Your web browser becomes unresponsive or freezes often. It’s running slow, even slower than usual. Your fans are wailing like banshees. You’re getting redirected to random sites you weren’t trying to access. Pop-up messages are attacking you every few minutes.

Your computer probably has a virus.

Not to mention a computer can be infected without any warning signs at all. Here’s a quick guideline on how to clean an infected computer.

1. Enter Safe Mode

Unplug all USB drives and remove CDs and DVDs from your computer, then proceed to shut down. Press F8 a few times when you restart to open “Advanced Boot Options”. In this menu, go into Safe Mode with Networking to use only the most necessary programs and services. Running the computer in safe mode will keep malware at bay if such is programmed to load when Windows starts automatically.

2. Save Documents, Videos, and Photos

…and any other things you wouldn’t want to lose. Viruses often hide in program files, so we’d advise against backing those up. Plus, you can download any program again if you want to. Save all your important stuff on a USB stick.

3. Download Malware Scanners

Some of the best on-demand scanners are SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, Emsisoft Emergency Kit, Stinger, and Dr.Web CureIt. We recommend downloading at least two. You might have trouble connecting to the Internet. In this case, use another computer and move the scanner to yours using a USB. Install the program, following set-up instructions.

4. Perform a Scan

Go directly to the scan. It will pull up a list of malware and have it removed. Some scanners also pull up a list of PUPs (potentially unwanted programs), which you can add to an exclusions list.

Restart your computer and run a scan again, this time using another program, to make sure your computer is clean. You can also try programs targeting adware apart from PUPs – just type “adware cleaner” into Google. If this program finds more infections, restart your computer again.

5. OS Update

Update your browser, apps, and operating system. Take advantage of any additional software updates that may be available. Programs that take advantage of outdated software can deliver some of the most dangerous forms of malware.

6. Password Reset

Before you managed to delete it, the malware may have remembered your passwords and made this data available to unconscientious Internet users. Change all of your passwords, especially if you do online banking, and make sure they’re as strong as possible.
